Longing for a New Song

The lady sits at her place, the ivories near at hand
The ebonies darkened as sharps she does know
Her repertoire extensive, she knows all the songs
Yet she longs for something to flow in her own heart

To learn other’s songs is done with great ease
She’s well trained and transposes all in a breeze
No pattern seems foreign to her skillful touch
Yet she longs to write something personal to Him

Everyone compliments her voice and its grace
She adorns the group’s goal to lead in High Praise
The door to the heavens she opens with song
But her own, still only five notes and no complete score

She wonders why the words and music don’t flow
The new song of God’s promise still escapes her grasp
She prays for guidance from His Holy Spirit in hope
That the new song of praise might flow from her heart

She’s young and has passion for her Lord above
But needs more suffering the shame of the cross
Before that sweet song that is buried deep within
Flows out of her bosom and into His ears! Amen

Refrain:
So the poet sets His words in their right place
To encourage that Patience must be in first place
And suffering for Christ is that place that you miss
Yield to His dealing and He will take you there

A Pure Heart

The coconut palm towers high in the sky
Its trunk long and stately looks down from there
Its fruit has water to quench our thirst
Its meat sweet and crunchy, so good that we eat!

Its life flows in its center the place of its heart
Different from other trees whose life, their outer part
Its image is found on God’s temple’s walls
Carved in its gold plates with angles all around

Now God’s children have their life deep within
The Spirit of God gives new life to them
The worldly man’s life like the other trees
Flows on the outside and lived for his flesh

Now the coconut palm carved into the walls
Speaks of the new creature through the work of God’s Lamb
For only true believers can freely enter in
To the place of God’s dwelling, the Holiest of All

Our life like the palm tree, God’s Spirit within
For the old man is ruled by His lustful desires
The soul of the believer in union with his Lord
For the veil rent in the temple, the obstacles destroyed

Our soul as His bride in union with Him
Our heavenly bridegroom in our bosom does rest
He ever looked for this place since creating man
And now through His own Son finds the true heart!
