A Good Seed Produces Good Fruit

It’s not so easy a poem to write!
It’s more than just some dried ink on white!
If you want your friend’s to be inspired,
Say something that will spark new life!

It’s not the rhyme that moves the theme
Not a catchy phrase or a fiery verse
Not a witty prose to stir one’s mind
But deeper where our conscience hears

Sometimes the words seem void of worth
But it is the seed within that has its birth
In challenging our souls to higher paths
Where eternal worth is stored on high

A poem is never worth much gold
Even copper coins are worth much more
Unless they work down deep within
To touch the soul of our inner man

So if one word can penetrate within
Past the mundane goals we all have set
To the place where conviction dwells
And wisdom pleads for a higher place

Yes, there the mine has no light
But its treasure has a coal of life
For breath says we are yet alive
Decisions change the course we take

Every day to the office we drive
Past homes with walls that testify
Of lives spent wasted seeking more
Of the same and less of the Lord

But we are not bound as slaves
To our flesh’s desire for earthly things
But free to choose the eternal goods
Reserved where rust does not corrupt

Above the glitter that holds the gaze
Of men who trade what they could have
If only they turn to the narrow path
And leave the broad way where sin reigns

So consider well the steps you take
Life’s too short to waste even a day
On worthless vanity that fades away
Leaving one naked not clothed in white
